The Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce is hosting a variety of holiday events this year.
On Friday, Dec. 2 the “Shop the Rock” campaign gets underway. Local merchants will be offering terrific sales for the season, and the chamber’s Orcas First initiative to shop locally will once again offer $200 in cash prizes for four winners.
To enter the contest, all shoppers have to do is visit an island Chamber-member business on either Friday or Saturday (Dec. 2 and 3), and fill out an entry form (available from the store).
They will leave the entry with the business, and the chamber will collect the weekend entries and announce the winners on Monday, Dec. 5.
On Saturday, Dec. 3 the annual Village Green tree lighting ceremony will take place. The festivities start at 3:30 p.m., with hot cider and baked goodies for all in attendance. Shortly thereafter, Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive, with bags of toys and treats for all the kids. The Community Band will provide holiday melodies, and then at approximately 4:45 p.m., the evening will be capped off with the lighting of the tree, resplendent with bright, sparkling winter lights.
