Point Blank, in collaboration with Orcas Island Firefighters Association, Orcas Towing, and Bennett Video Productions, has created a powerful presentation on the negative effects of distracted driving.
The group organized a school assembly and presented to the high school, Orcas Christian school, local firefighters and EMTs, local law enforcement, parents, and community members – an estimated 300 people came to watch the presentation.
On May 19, the students are traveling to Grand Mount, Wash. to the Spring Youth Prevention Summit. They will compete against six other teams and if they make it in the top seven, they have the opportunity of presenting to an estimated 350 students and their advisors.
Point Blank needs community members’ votes. The team could win $5,000 to $10,000 for next year’s projects if they gather enough votes to be one of the top teams in the US.
The group has entered a three-minute version of its video “Don’t drive while inTXTicated” in a contest competing with other prevention groups around the U.S.
