Orcas Volleyball team has mixed play

Last Tuesday, Orcas lost to Shoreline in three games: 24/26, 16/25, 13/25. Coach Greg Sasan said, “We had them 23/17, and then it just went downhill from there. We simply never found our groove. My hat is off to Shoreline. They served really well, and we just weren’t there mentally and we couldn’t pass. The worst thing was that for standings reasons, we really wanted to win this one, but it just wasn’t going to come together. It was one of those times that we all played badly...it wasn’t just one or two players.”

But the Lady Vikings pulled it together for their next game away at Concrete last Thursday. They won at Concrete three out of three games to win the match 25/7, 25/5, and 25/7. The Lady Vikings shook off Tuesday’s match once they arrived on court and they got back on the uphill side of their mental battle. Their passing started clicking, and they began shifting their line up on the court in a more productive manner.

“We rebounded at Concrete and we took on their varsity team there. We had a great deal of consistency in our serves, plus several aces. It was definitely a much better day for us,” said Sasan.

The Orcas volleyball team’s next match is against Darrington on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Orcas, then Thursday Oct. 16 they play Friday Harbor in an away game.
