The Lobos football team traveled all the way to Neah Bay this weekend, losing to the Red Devils team 30-58 in a Saturday night game.

But, a Lopez sports record was made when the Lobos had possession right at their goal line, and Colton Jardine ran a school record 100 yards downfield to score a touchdown. Kramer scored for the two point conversion.

Shawn Samuel intercepted a pass and went 55 yards for a touchdown and Jardine followed up and scored the two pointer.

The score in the first quarter was 8-24, Neah Bay ahead, then in the second quarter Neah Bay scored three more touchdowns, making the score 8-44. But in the third quarter the Lobos rallied, scoring two touchdowns and stopping the Red Devil offense.

In the fourth quarter Lopez scored one more touchdown, but Neah Bay answered with two more scores as well. In scoring, Colton Jardine made good on a three-yard run, then he made the two-point conversion as well. Tommy Kramer scored on a five-yard run, but the two-pointer failed.

In rushing, the Lobos had 20 carries for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns; in receiving, Jardine was 9/15 for 120 yards in receptions.

Coach Larry Berg reported, “We didn’t play as well as we needed to play in the first half, and again we were plagued by a variety of penalties that hampered our forward momentum not just once but several times. And if there wasn’t a penalty, then there were dropped balls. It just stops the drive forward. But we picked things up in the second half.”

Coach Berg added “The Neah Bay community was very kind to us. They prepared dinner for us and in their native tradition, they held something that they call a table song, a traditional song and dance social ritual that was very welcoming and gave the young men a taste of a culture different from their own. Afterwards, there was a lot of conversation between the two teams and movies to watch; it was a good relaxed evening and this was our first time being hosted by an away team in our new division. We’re in the Pacific Coast league now, in the north division, and we’re meeting several new teams for the first time this year.”

The Lobos play again on Friday, Oct. 24 against Highland Christian at 4 p.m. in Arlington.
