Boys basketball: Lopez boys hanging tough at State basketball shampionships

The Lobos fought hard against unbeaten Rosalia at their first State championship game on Wednesday, Feb. 24, but the Spartans prevailed, with a score of 44 to 23. One more loss and the Lobos would have been out. But Lopez regrouped and struck back with a vengeance, defeating Oakville 62 to 50 to stay in the running.

The Lobos fought hard against unbeaten Rosalia at their first State championship game on Wednesday, Feb. 24, but the Spartans prevailed, with a score of 44 to 23.

One more loss and the Lobos would have been out.

But Lopez regrouped and struck back with a vengeance, defeating Oakville 62 to 50 to stay in the running.

The Lobos’ old nemesis, the Lummi Blackhawks, won their first game but then lost to Moses Lake Christian. The Blackhawks are now vying for 4th place in state.

Today at 12:30 p.m. the Lobos are up against the Pateros Billygoats, who butted out the Neah Bay team in the second round. If they beat the Billygoats, the Lobos could play one last game on Feb. 27, winner takes 5th and loser takes 8th place at state.

The final game of the 1B league state championship tournament will be played at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27.
