OIPP emphasizes the positive with lattes, treats and parent surveys

The Orcas Island Prevention Partnership (OIPP) is continuing its “Spotlight on the Positive” campaign for the parents of Orcas 6th-12th graders.

The Orcas Island Prevention Partnership (OIPP) is continuing its “Spotlight on the Positive” campaign for the parents of Orcas 6th-12th graders.

In the next few weeks parents will be receiving a call asking them to take 10 minutes to answer questions about things like curfews or checking in with other parents when their kids are heading out for the night. The survey will help OIPP provide parents with some helpful information and collective wisdom over the next year about what keeps kids safe in our community.

In thanks for taking a few minutes to speak with the university research team that is implementing this anonymous survey, OIPP has sent out a coupon for a free latte or treat from Enzo’s or the Sunflower Cafe.

The goal of this campaign is to empower parents to take the protective actions research shows reduces alcohol use among youth, such as having clear rules and consequences, knowing where your teens are and promoting adult supervision. Additionally, the survey will help OIPP’s work to correct any misperceptions our community may have about Orcas parents and their attitudes about underage drinking.
