1934-2022

Margaret Eugenia Keel passed away on March 8, 2022. She was born to Zoa and Lester Cowden on September 20, 1934 at her grandparents’ home in Crow Valley, Orcas Island. She married John Keel in 1953. After some time in Seattle while John worked at Boeing, they returned to the island in 1968 and raised their four boys in Doe Bay (Howard, Tom, Leonard, and Lester). Margaret volunteered and worked various jobs at island resorts and stores. She was a substitute mail carrier and was one of the first emergency medical technicians on the island. She loved reading, crafting, working on the land, gardening, and keeping animals well-tended. As a product of the Depression and war-time eras and island farm life, and by her own grace, she calmly and energetically took care of anything that needed taking care of. Mostly she took care of all the people in her life, including many people in the community when they needed someone. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on April 9 at the Woodlawn Cemetery.
