The San Juan Islands Museum of Art and Sculpture Park announces the winners of “Above and Beneath the Sea,” a photo competition sponsored in conjunction with Ernest H. Brooks II’s photography exhibition and island visit. A world renowned underwater photographer, and former CEO of the Brooks Institute of Photography, Brooks volunteered to be the honorable judge.
Winners will be presented on June 21 at the San Juan Community Theatre, following Brooks’ multi-media program “A Photographer’s View of Marine Stewardship.” The winning works will be displayed at IMA from June 22 through September 8, along with “Silver Seas: A Retrospective” an exhibition of Brooks’ iconic black and white underwater landscapes.
The contest was open to San Juan County photographers, with five categories: Above the Sea: Marine Life, Marine Landscape, Vessels sailing under heavy seas, and Beneath the Sea: Macro/close-up, and Underwater life.
