Trash receptacles removed from Village Green in cost cutting measure

Trash receptacles will be removed at Eastsound Village Green the week of July 5 to cut costs and compensate for sagging park use revenues. Those using the green will need to pick up and remove any trash created by events.

The county expects use fees from the farmers market to be $2500 less then last year due to the reduced fees being charged since it became a non-profit and the three weeks it was at Prune Alley.

Several other revenue-producing events are no longer using the space, further reducing the budget by $3,000. Eliminating the garbage service to the green will save up to $2,000 and other cost cutting measures are being evaluated.

The Parks Department will continue to provide garbage collection service at the county’s camping parks, but the service has already been cutback or eliminated at other day parks.
