The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Oct. 18

• A Lopez deputy responded to a vandalism call after the interior of one of the public bathrooms in the village was “egged.” Management of the park is considering increasing security measures.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of fraud. An unknown person sent a local individual a fake cashier’s check for an item they had listed for sale. The individual did not report a loss of money or loss of the item they listed for sale.

• A deputy was dispatched to an animal problem on Lopez. The owner was given a verbal warning and the incident was documented.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Mud Bay Road and issued the driver a citation for speeding – 50 mph in a posted 35 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the vehicle’s driver and issued them a citation for speeding – 56 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• Deputies on Orcas were dispatched to a report of a citizen dispute in front of a local business. The investigation is ongoing.

Oct. 19

• A resident on Dolphin Bay Road reported a string of missing packages from their mailbox. A report was taken and steps to mitigate the issue are being taken by the homeowner.

Oct. 20

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for a defective trailer light. The driver was issued multiple warnings and citations for not having insurance, for a defective taillight, and for an expired registration of more than two months.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a deceased person.

• Lopez deputies responded to a dog fight. The owner of the dogs was injured while attempting to separate them, was tended to by Lopez EMS, and airlifted to a hospital. The dogs were brought to a veterinary hospital.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an order violation. No crime was committed, and the incident was documented.

• A deputy responded to a report of an overdose on San Juan. The deputy administered three doses of Narcan and the individual was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Oct. 21

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an overdose. The reporting party was able to administer Narcan, and the individual was transported to the emergency room for treatment.

• A Lopez resident reported late-night hunting on a private road. The unknown hunter was trespassing and in violation of hunting laws.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for traveling 51 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a suspicious individual. The person was contacted and believed to be intoxicated, which was against their court conditions of release. The report was forwarded to the individual’s probation officer.

Oct. 22

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a fraud complaint. An investigation commenced and is ongoing.

• On San Juan, a report of a stolen laptop was filed with the Sheriff’s Office. After an investigation, it was determined to be civil in nature. No further action was taken.

• A Friday Harbor man was taken into custody for violating a protection order by coming within 250 feet of a residence. He was booked into jail pending a hearing with the judge.

• On Orcas, a deputy conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 54 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• Two large dogs on San Juan attacked another dog who was on a leash. The dog that was attacked suffered a minor injury to its hind leg. The owner of the attacking dogs was eventually contacted and a report was filed.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop near Eastsound. The driver received a citation for driving without a valid driver’s license and a warning for speeding.

• A deputy took a stray dog to the Orcas animal shelter.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to report a dog-at-large. The dog was reunited with its owner who was subsequently issued a dog-at-large letter.

• A deputy responded to a single-vehicle, non-injury accident on San Juan. The driver of the vehicle struck a deer, which caused enough damage to the vehicle for it to be towed.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a male jumping out of the bushes and intentionally breaking a vehicle’s mirror and bending the antenna. The deputy located the individual and spoke with the victim who did not wish to pursue the matter criminally.

Oct. 23

• An Orcas deputy responded to a traffic hazard on Olga Road. A vehicle was found abandoned blocking the southbound lane of traffic and was subsequently towed.

• A deputy on Orcas received a mail theft complaint.

• A Friday Harbor resident asked that a person be officially trespassed from his property. A trespass statement was taken, and the individual will be trespassed.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to an agency assist call that involved a child taken into protective custody. The investigation is ongoing.

Oct. 24

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist call.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a non-injury collision. The damage did not meet the threshold for mandatory reporting; an exchange of information was facilitated, and one driver received a citation for following too closely, having an expired registration for more than two months, and no insurance.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of vandalism to a portable toilet. It is not known who vandalized the toilet or how, and there are no workable leads or suspect information at this time.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a possible residential burglary. Nothing was missing or out of place in the residence, however, personal items were left behind. A report was completed.

• In Friday Harbor, a deputy took a report of an ATM card that was left at a business. The owner was unable to be located, and the ATM card was placed into evidence as found property.
