Students to share stories from Olympic Peninsula trip

The community is invited to join the Orcas Island Elementary sixth grade class with teacher Paula Towne on Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Parish Hall. Students will give a brief presentation of their week-long field trip to the Olympic Peninsula. There will be a slideshow, snacks and a Jeopardy-like game.

The community is invited to join the Orcas Island Elementary sixth grade class with teacher Paula Towne on Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Parish Hall. Students will give a brief presentation of their week-long field trip to the Olympic Peninsula. There will be a slideshow, snacks and a Jeopardy-like game.

This educational event will give the students the opportunity to demonstrate what they learned about inquiry-based science questions and analyzing old growth forests, not to mention what they learned about themselves and each other.

Thanks to donations of NatureBridge founding member Valerie Anders and the support of the Orcas Island Education Foundation, Orcas sixth graders have been attending NatureBridge on the Olympic Peninsula (formerly OPI) for eight years. Students return to their classroom invigorated by the field studies and with a greater appreciation of how they collaborate as a team. Lessons learned are those that help carry them through middle and high school, as well as through life.
