Orcas Islanders are invited to join in an April 23 “Trashathon” road cleanup from noon till 2 p.m. The event is also a fundraiser for this year’s chosen non-profit, SEADOC Society, and other non-profits of participants’ choice.

“Everyone please get pledges of one cent or more per pound from your friends and neighbors,” said Tye. “We will shoot for at least 1,000 pounds. A one cent pledge would then yield $10.”

Those participating in the Trashathon are instructed to gather names, addresses, phone numbers and pledge amounts, as well as the name of a non-profit they want their pledge to go to. This information should be given to Tye, available at 317-5170.

All Trashathon teams will meet in the parking lot of the Grange at 2:30 p.m., after trash collection, for a group photo with the trash collected. Afterward the groups will head to the dump to weigh their collections.

“Please help with this important civic clean up,” said Tye. “Collect trash, collect pledges, transport volunteers, transport trash. Thank you.”
