San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to these calls:

July 23: A Lopez Island man reportedly saw a marauding dog kill one of his brother’s lamb during an early-evening fatal attack in a pasture behind the tennis courts at the high school on Center Road. The attack occurred at about 6 p.m.

July 25: An 18-year-old Bothell man was airlifted to a mainland hospital for treatment after crashing headlong into a car during an ill-fated adventure on a skateboard in Moran State Park on Orcas Island. The man, who was skateboarding down Mount Constitution Road and being filmed at the time by a friend in a trailing vehicle, suffered possible head injuries after colliding into a van driven by a 44-year-old Tacoma man who was headed up the mountain at the same time along with his family.

July 29: Senior Services on Lopez Island was temporarily grounded after someone reportedly stole the battery out of the agency’s van. The van was parked at Woodmen Hall and unlocked at the time the battery, valued at $75, disappeared.

Aug. 2: Two teenage boys from La Center were arrested on alcohol-related charges after the father of one, fearing for his son’s health, called authorities to their campsite at Odlin Park on Lopez Island. The man’s son reportedly became ill after consuming alcohol and cough/cold medication, and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

An Orcas Island woman was reportedly accosted in her home following an apparent late-night break-in in the Matia View neighborhood. The 46-year-old claims she was attacked by someone who broke into her home shortly before midnight.

Aug. 3: Allegations of assault led to the arrest of a 10-year-old Orcas Island boy who’s accused of punching another 10-year-old boy in the face. The 10-year-old alleged assailant was arrested at his home shortly after the altercation, which reportedly occurred at the Funhouse at about 3:30 p.m., and then released to his parents.

Aug. 4: A Bellingham man was arrested for boating under the influence, or BUI, following a routine vessel inspection by the U.S. Coast Guard on the north side of Orcas Island. The 34-year-old was taken into custody by local officers at Brandt’s Landing in Eastsound at about 6:30 p.m. shortly after a Coast Guard crew boarded the man’s 27-foot Grady White fishing boat.
