What service can the newly formed Orcas extension of the Rotary Club of San Juan Island bring to this island? That is the question the club hopes to answer during its next meeting on Friday, Aug 12.

Orcas Island Community Foundation Executive Director Hilary Canty gave a presentation to a room of Rotarians and potential Rotarians, on Friday, Aug. 5. The Rotary is reaching out to members of the community to find out how exactly the group can be of service to them.

“When we put our minds to it, a group of volunteers can do something,” said Canty. She explained that there are 113 non-profits on the island, and praised the philanthropy of the community.

“The community is full of needs and opportunities,” said Canty. “There are a lot of opportunities here.”

If you’re interested in joining the Rotary, attend one of its Friday meetings at 4:30 p.m. at the 376 Group.
