Olga Daze is just around the corner: on Saturday, July 16, the event will light up the hamlet of Olga with Betty Marcum’s delicious homemade maple bar doughnuts, sizzling Italian sausages, toe-tapping live and lively music, “the World’s Shortest Parade” at noon, a barn sale, silent auction and quilt raffle.

“Some [visitors to Orcas] plan their vacations each year around this fun day,” said organizer Barbara Wheeler.

Held on the third Saturday of each July from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event is the Olga Community Club’s main annual fundraiser. Organizers are looking for new or gently used donations to make it all happen. Items for the silent auction can include fine art, jewelry, handmade items, and services such as whale watching and kayak tours. To drop off silent auction donations or to arrange pickup, call Wheeler at 376-3224.

Donations are also welcome for the Barn Sale, which features a large variety of items in clean, working order. Barn sale donations may be brought to the Red Barn at the Olga Park next to the Community Clubhouse on Thursdays and Fridays, July 7, 8, 14 or 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. To arrange pickup of barn sale donations, call George Post at 376-4887.
