Nocturnal nuisance, abandoned accident, recovered runaway | The San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Jan. 27

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 60 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 66 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 56 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued citations for speeding, and for not having either proof of insurance or registration in the vehicle. Several warnings were also given.

• A deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on San Juan for failing to stop at a stop sign and for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign.

• Deputies visited a Lopez residence to investigate a possible domestic violence incident. No crime appeared to have been committed and a report was completed.

Jan. 28

• A deputy responded to a Lopez residence after a resident caused a late night disturbance with neighbors. The resident, who was highly intoxicated, agreed to stop being disorderly and go to bed.

• A deputy responded to a person in crisis near West Beach. The person was located and was spoken to by a designated crisis responder and a plan was set in place.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a threats call. The investigation is ongoing.

• In Friday Harbor, a deputy was contacted about found property. The property was placed in evidence until it can be returned to the owner.

• Orcas deputies responded to a domestic disturbance complaint. An investigation determined a misdemeanor assault took place and the investigation was forwarded to the prosecutor for charging determination.

Jan. 29

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a safekeeping call. The deputy obtained the property and stored it in a safe location.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a sick animal. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a possible domestic incident. After an investigation was completed, a report was taken and forwarded to the prosecutors office.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a suspicious call. There are no suspects or leads at this time.

• A San Juan deputy was contacted about a domestic incident. The person said they were having an issue with an ex-boyfriend. The deputy contacted the ex-boyfriend and spoke with him; it was determined that no crime had been committed.

• Orcas deputies responded to a domestic disturbance complaint. An investigation determined a misdemeanor assault did take place and the case investigation was forwarded to the prosecutor for charging determination.

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to a suspicious person call in Friday Harbor. The deputy arrived and located a person who had an outstanding warrant. The person was arrested and booked into custody.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 53 mph in a 25 mile per hour zone.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for a defective turn signal. The driver was arrested for obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. Citations were issued for the defective turn signal and for not having insurance.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 40 mph in a 25 mile per hour zone.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a trespassing complaint. The complaint was investigated. The person lodging the complaint was unavailable and unreachable and, with only the alleged suspect’s testimony to rely upon, the complaint was determined to be unfounded.

Jan. 30

• A deputy conducted a welfare check on San Juan. The deputy contacted the people involved and, after speaking with all the parties, one person was transported to Peace Island Medical Center for an evaluation.

• A juvenile stated they were assaulted the day before by a known juvenile at a business in Eastsound. The investigation is ongoing.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a runaway juvenile from a different state. The juvenile was located and was taken into protective custody.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a citizen assist.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 53 mph in a 35 mile per hour zone.

Jan. 31

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a call about an accident without injury. The vehicle had been abandoned and was blocking the road. The vehicle was towed.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 59 mph in a 40 mile per hour zone.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license and did not have an ignition interlock device in the vehicle as required. Charges were referred to the prosecutor.

Feb. 1

• A Lopez deputy was called to euthanize an injured deer that had been struck by a car.
