The Orcas Senior Center honored the Orcas Deputies last Friday in a lunch celebration in honor of “National Police Week.”

Each deputy was presented with a Teezers gift certificate, cookies, a “thin blue line” painting, and a card signed by almost 100 island seniors.

During the appreciation ceremony, Senior Services Coordinator Marla Johns, read from Paul Harvey’s “A Policeman is…”  Deputies were also treated to lunch at the senior center.

“Police Week is important to recognize the significance and sacrifice of our law enforcement officers,” Johns said. “The Orcas Senior Center hopes to make this an annual event during National Peace Officers week each year, and encourages other island organizations to add this important week to their calendars as well.
