Loring files to continue serving as Superior Court Judge

Submitted by the Campaign to reelect Judge Loring,

Kathryn (Katie) Loring has filed for reelection to continue serving our community as San Juan County Superior Court Judge. Judge Loring began her term on the bench when Governor Inslee appointed her at the end of 2017, and she won reelection in 2018 and 2020. Prior to that time, she practiced law for 10 years in Friday Harbor, after beginning her career as a law clerk for Washington Supreme Court Justice Mary Fairhurst and gathering experience at Perkins Coie in Seattle.

Judge Loring is committed to meaningful access to justice for all members of our community and to a court environment where people feel that they are heard, and understand the process and the result. She has implemented therapeutic court processes in Drug Court and Family Treatment Court to address mental health challenges and addiction that contribute to criminal behavior and that impact parenting. She has also overseen improvements in courtroom technology to make the court more accessible.

“I am honored to serve the people of San Juan County as Superior Court Judge,” said Judge Loring. “I appreciate the great responsibility of the position and I strive every day to apply our state’s laws with impartiality, integrity, diligence, and compassion for the people who come before the court.”
