Crosby and Thomerson win OPALCO election

A record number of voters cast their ballots in the 2009 OPALCO board of directors election.

The results were announced during the co-op’s annual meeting aboard the ferry on May 16. Winnie Adams received 364 votes, Moriah Armstrong had 285, Roger Crosby received 452, Joan Pedrick came in with 249, Jeffrey Struthers garnered 391, and Chris Thomerson had 887.

Incumbents Crosby and Thomerson were the winners, and will retain their seats on the board.

The final number of votes cast, including absentee and those tallied during the meeting, was 1349, twice more than in previous years.

More than 400 members from San Juan, Orcas, Shaw, and Lopez attended the annual meeting, where they enjoyed a free lunch, door prizes and a chance to talk directly with board candidates.

Conservation was the theme of the day, with speakers highlighting recent energy-saving efforts of the organization and the important role that members play in lowering their monthly bills.
