The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 10

• A deputy on Orcas stopped the driver of a vehicle for trespassing on private property and arrested them for driving with a suspended license and giving false information to a peace officer.

• An anonymous person turned in a small white pouch containing an unknown substance to the San Juan County Sheriff’s office. Not knowing who the unidentified substance belonged to, it was placed into the property room for destruction.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a citizen dispute and learned that the suspect made a death threat. The individual was arrested for felony harassment and booked into jail without incident. A probable cause statement was completed.

• A deputy responded to a local business regarding a found purse. With no identification in the purse, it was booked into the property room at the Orcas substation.

• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for expired registration. The driver was found to be driving on a suspended driver’s license and subsequently cited.

• San Juan deputies responded to a request for a welfare check in Friday Harbor. The person was found to be well and had the support of family members.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a runaway juvenile. The deputy located the juvenile; notified the parents; and counseled the juvenile regarding their behavior and ways to cope with difficulties.

Aug. 11

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a reported sex offense. The incident was investigated and probable cause was established. A male subject was arrested for indecent exposure.

• A deputy responded to a report of trespassing. Two individuals will be served a trespass warning letter for all Port of Friday Harbor properties.

• An Orcas deputy investigated vandalism to several parcel lockers inside the post office.

• A San Juan deputy investigated a report of theft at a local business and recovered the items. The subject was arrested for theft.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a mail theft call near Doe Bay. There are no suspects at this time.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of an assault near Egg Lake Road and probable cause was developed to charge the suspect with a crime. The suspect, however, had fled the area and was unable to be located.

• A Lopez deputy conducted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle. The driver was issued a citation for expired registration and a warning for speeding.

Aug. 12

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a person attempting to gain access to a tent. After investigation, it was determined the culprit was likely a raccoon.

• A deputy was dispatched to a possible missing person on San Juan. The deputy made contact with the person reporting the incident and the missing person was located.

• A deputy responded to a theft-of-property call in Eastsound. The owner was unsure when the items were possibly taken out of their yard and there are no suspects at this time.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of trespassing involving two people camping on private property and told them to leave. One individual was issued a citation for discarding lit cigarette ash – potentially dangerous litter.

• An Orcas deputy responded to an allegation of a subject exposing himself. After an investigation was conducted it was determined no crime had been committed.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor responded to a third-party report of verbal threats from unknown persons walking by two other people’s residences sometime within the past couple of days. The words, suspect and other people involved are unknown at this time.

• An Orcas deputy responded to an animal-at-large call. The person calling alleged she was almost trampled by a “stampede of loose horses.” The owners of the animals were contacted, and the animals were corralled safely.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a man yelling obscenities at the Orcas ferry terminal. The suspect was referred to the San Juan County Adult Probation Department for a violation of release conditions.

Aug. 13

• San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 45 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and was warned for failing to update their address.

• A Lopez resident reported damage that occurred to two vehicles that were parked on his property. The case is under investigation.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a domestic violence incident. The parties were separated upon arrival. After an investigation, one person was taken into custody for first-degree domestic violence burglary and fourth-degree domestic assault.

• A Lopez deputy was called when a vehicle was reported swerving on the road. The driver was located and claimed to have been swerving around bikers.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a single-vehicle accident. The driver had gone off the road and was uninjured and there were no passengers. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol and was arrested for DUI.

Aug. 14

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of an unconscious person on San Juan. The deputy arrived after San Juan EMS had responded. The person had only been sleeping next to the road.

• A Lopez deputy conducted a traffic stop on a driver speeding on Fisherman Bay Road. The driver was issued a citation for expired registration and given a warning for speeding.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of threats. A subject used vulgar language towards another. Reporting party was advised about the laws regarding harassment versus free speech.

• A deputy responded to a walk-in report of found property. The owner of the property was unable to be located and it was entered into the property room per policy.

• A Lopez resident called in a suspected DUI driver. A deputy located the involved vehicle and determined the driver was not intoxicated; however, the driver admitted to looking at their phone in an attempt to locate a cell signal.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding in the Lakedale area of Roche Harbor Road. The driver was issued a citation for speeding – 70 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Aug. 15

• A Lopez deputy issued a trespass letter at the request of a property owner.

• A Lopez resident complained about speeding vehicles on the road in front of his residence. The radar trailer was placed in the area.

• A deputy responded to a report of a trespassing incident that occurred on Aug. 6. The reporting party wished to have the person involved trespassed from her property and signed a trespass letter. The person involved was not on the island and will be served when he returns.

• A deputy was dispatched to an animal problem in the Friday Harbor area. A dog had attacked and injured another dog, requiring veterinary treatment. Likely probable cause for a public nuisance.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a theft. The incident was investigated and found to be a civil issue.

• A deputy responded to a report of a found cell phone in a roadway on San Juan.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a medical complaint by an individual in custody. The individual was evaluated by EMS and a deputy took the person to the hospital. The hospital cleared the person who was then returned to jail.

Aug. 16

• An Orcas resident reported a fraudulent credit card opened in his name.

• A person with the Lopez Chamber of Commerce found a cell phone on the side of the road and turned it into the sheriff’s office. A deputy contacted the owner, who had lost their phone while visiting the islands. The cell phone was mailed to the owner, who lives in Seattle.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of disorderly conduct. One individual was arrested and booked into jail for indecent exposure.

• A deputy and EMS on San Juan responded to an animal bite. The victim was bitten when separating two dogs that were in an altercation. The victim was seen by EMS, then went to the hospital for treatment. The other dog’s owner was cooperative and was issued a warning letter.

Aug. 17

• A Lopez deputy responded to a noise complaint.
