The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Jan. 8

• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle in the 5700 block of Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding 69 mph in a posted 40 mph speed zone.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. An arrest was made and the person was booked into jail for harassment, threats to kill — domestic violence; malicious mischief in the second degree – domestic violence; and assault in the fourth degree — domestic violence.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a juvenile problem.

Jan. 9

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of found property. The person located an item at the head of their driveway. Attempts to contact the owner of the item failed. The item was entered into evidence and a report was taken.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched to a theft call and the incident was documented.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of an attempted suicide. The person had made comments about self-harm and had possibly taken something. The person was transported by emergency medical services to the hospital.

• Orcas Island deputies responded to a vehicle collision with injuries. The driver lost control of their vehicle and crashed head-on into a tree. The driver was flown off-island to a hospital.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a citizen dispute. A person involved in the incident received a trespass warning letter from the residence.

Jan. 10

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a suspicious incident. The incident was documented, and no involved parties were identifiable.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a welfare check. The investigation showed that the person was under the influence and fled from the deputy when he was contacted.

• A deputy was dispatched to a vehicle theft. The person reported that a vehicle had been removed from his business’s impound yard. A report was taken.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an individual experiencing a mental health crisis as a result of using hallucinogenic drugs. The individual refused care, no crime was committed and the incident was documented.

• The sheriff located a suspect in a stolen vehicle case on San Juan Island. The suspect fled on foot and was apprehended a short distance away. The suspect was charged with taking a motor vehicle without permission, burglary in the second degree, assault in the third degree, obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle as the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle occupants switched seats prior to deputy contact and the original driver was arrested for driving without a license in the third degree and driving without an ignition interlock device.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a mental health call. The individual was hallucinating that someone was inside their house. The incident was documented and forwarded to Adult Protective Services.

• A Lopez deputy responded when a concerned citizen reported finding unfamiliar women’s undergarments and several other unusual items in their home. The incident was documented.

Jan. 11

• A deputy was contacted about found property. The person turned over a found item. The item was entered into evidence. A report was taken.

• A deputy was dispatched to a burglary in the San Juan Island area. The deputy arrived and contacted the person involved. The person reported someone had come onto the property and checked the buildings out. Nothing appeared missing. A report was taken.

Jan. 12

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a call for a citizen assist. The reporting party wanted to report concerning behavior of someone that they know so that it was documented in the case that anything happens involving that person in the future. A report was completed.

• Deputies on San Juan Island responded to a report of a possible overdose. The deputies located the female inside of a residence, barely responsive. San Juan Island EMS took over patient care immediately. The female was flown off the island for further care. A report was completed.

Jan. 13

• An Orcas Island deputy received a call of an unwanted person at the Exchange. A no-trespass warning letter was signed by the management of the Exchange.

• An Orcas Island deputy was dispatched to a suspicious call in the Eastsound area. It was later determined that the call was in reference to a mental health call from the day prior. No crime was committed, and the incident was documented.

Jan. 14

• A Lopez resident was contacted on a mental health complaint. The proper care providers are working on the issue.

• A Lopez resident was contacted for a noise violation.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a fraud investigation in the Olga area. The reporting party’s bank account had been compromised and an unknown suspect(s) used the bank account to purchase airline tickets. The investigation is ongoing.

• An Orcas Island deputy was dispatched to an agency assist call in the Eastsound area. There were concerns of an individual being a possible vulnerable adult. An interview took place, and the incident was documented.

• A Lopez resident called about a troublesome living situation involving a friend. Deputies are aware of the situation after responding multiple times to this residence. Adult Protective Services and the family have been notified that a solution is needed from them.

• A Lopez resident reported the theft of packages from their mailbox. This occurred closer to the holiday season.
