Yes to the fire levy | Letter

We are recipients of OIFR EMS services I am writing you today asking your support in the upcoming vote for the newly proposed OIFR Operations levy. This levy is crucial in restoring staffing levels to what they were in 2023, allowing for day and night EMS and Fire coverage safeguards so that simultaneous EMS calls are responded to promptly.

Currently, EMS services are being provided by a combination of full-time employees and volunteers. While volunteers have been filling the gaps, this is not a sustainable long-term solution. With the new levy in place, we can ensure that we have the necessary resources to provide the highest level of service to our island community.

The Operations levy will cost .77 cents/1000 of assessed property value, .24 cents above the previous levy, and it is a temporary 5-year levy. This means that voters will have the opportunity to vote again in 5 years. Monies raised will go towards supporting our dedicated volunteers and professionals, plus ensuring that our response vehicles are well-maintained.

Having a well-equipped fire district is not only essential for the safety and well-being of our community members but also plays a crucial role in maintaining property values. We believe that investing in our fire services is an investment in the livability of our island.

I urge you to support this levy and help us ensure that our community has the resources needed to respond to emergencies effectively. Thank you for your consideration.
