Sportsmen hold turkey shoot

The Orcas Island Sportsmen Club will be holding its 58th annual fundraising Turkey Shoot on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. to 6.p.m. at the club shooting ranges, located at 1906 Enchanted Forest Road. The club entrance is 1.9 miles west of Lovers Lane and there will be signs at the entrance.

This is a public event and families are encouraged to bring their children and come out for a fun, safe day of shooting. There will be certified range safety officers on all ranges to offer free instruction to beginning shooters.

One prize will be awarded for each six shooters. Prizes will be frozen turkeys and steaks. Each event will cost $4 per shooter and a five-event guaranteed prize ticket is $22. The favorite event is the Buddy/Team shoot where teams compete for the Grand Prize, which includes a turkey or steaks for each of the winning partners. Contestants may enter as many times as they wish to improve their chances of winning. The cost is $5 per entry.

Shooting events will be held in 22-caliber rifle, as well as trap shooting on the shotgun range, plus new events. Ammunition and firearms, including youth size firearms, will be available. Club restrictions on the type of firearms and ammunition used as well as strict safety rules will, as always, be in effect. Eye and ear safety protection will be available.

A barbecue lunch will be available in the Club House from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. A cheese burger, a bowl of chili and a soft drink will be $6.
