Plein Air Painters of Washington summer social and exhibit at Turtleback Mountain

The Plein Air Painters of Washington, in conjunction with The San Juan Preservation Trust, will again be “outstanding in their fields” (and salt marshes, cliff sides, beaches) painting the land and seascapes en plein air. Dozens of accomplished artists from all over the state of Washington have been hard at work, capturing the light and the virtual sights, sounds, smells and essence of the islands, culminating with the annual SJPT “summer social” and art exhibit at Turtleback Mountain followed by a one-month exhibit at Crow Valley Gallery on Orcas Island. Local artists, David Ridgway, Steve Hill and Sara Bayer plan to participate again in this year’s event.

This is the biggest The San Juan Preservation Trust/Plein Air Painters of Washington event of the year, and the artists, together with Crow Valley Pottery and Gallery, are especially proud to be donating some of the proceeds of sales from their works directly to the trust. A live art show and auction, picnic with local food and music, and a plein air painting event will provide an afternoon of sensory and culinary feasts.

The event is on Saturday, July 30 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the south entrance to Turtleback Mountain Preserve. Go to “Calendar of Events” at www.sjpt.org for a detailed map and directions. For more information, contact the SJPT at 468-3202.
