Good steward awards announced

Stewardship Network of the San Juans’ mission is to promote awareness of the Salish Sea ecosystem and our shared responsibility for its preservation and conservation by working collaboratively on education, outreach, volunteer and science initiatives.

Since 2008 the annual Good Steward Awards have been sponsored by the Stewardship Network of the San Juans to honor individuals, both youth and adults, and businesses that have demonstrated through their actions, exemplary stewardship ethics. Each winner is presented with a “Finnie” award—a glazed ceramic salmon crafted by Maria Michaelson.

SMRU Consulting received the 2022 Finnie Award for Business, in recognition of their work in research and passive acoustic monitoring that protects marine mammals in the Salish Sea. The award was presented by Katie Fleming to Jason Wood, Managing Director, Sam Tabbutt, Field Engineer and Paul King, Director of Engineering.

SMRU Consulting is one of the worlds leading marine research and consulting firms and is part of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. They have offices in St. Andrews U.K., Friday Harbor WA, and Vancouver, BC. Their scientists and engineers provide scientific research and engineering products and services to various public, governmental and private organizations around the world to help mitigate human-created impacts to marine mammals.
