Garden Club starts Sept. 17

The Orcas Island Garden Club will hold its first meeting of the new season on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Orcas Center at 10 a.m. The speaker will be John Christianson, owner of Christianson’s Nursery in Mt. Vernon, who will provide an opportunity to purchase plants after his presentation. Everyone is welcome to attend. A single membership is $20 for the year and $25 for couples. Dues help to defray the expense of guest speakers and the rent for meeting at the Orcas Center. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Garden Club on Orcas Island. At the Dec. 12 meeting, those who were members at the first meeting in 1958 will be recongnized. The goal of garden club meetings is to help those who lives on Orcas to enjoy their gardening to the fullest. Speakers direct their lessons toward issues of gardening and bringing greater beauty to the environment. Gardening challenges and other questions may be directed to Ken Walker at 376-0501 or Midge Kraetzer at 376-2373.
