Concert at Orcas Community Church

Orcas Island Community Church is presenting an evening with singer/songwriter Jeff Johnson and writer Stephen Lawhead on Sunday, May 31, 7 p.m. There is no charge, although donations are accepted.

Lawhead is an internationally renowned author of epic and historical fiction. His books, which have been translated into 24 languages, include “The Song of Albion” series, “The Pendragon Cycle,” and most recently a re-imagining of the Robin Hood myths: Hood, Scarlet, and Tuck. A native Nebraskan, he makes his home in Oxford, England, with his wife Alice. More information about Lawhead and his work can be found at www.stephenlawhead.com.

For three decades Johnson has produced and recorded a body of work reflecting his journey of faith and creative musings. His many solo projects (Journey Prayers, Vespers, Standing Still, Benediction) segue rich instrumental passages with songs that feature his uniquely interpretive vocals producing soundscapes full of wonder and beauty. Much of his current solo work is derived from his experience with leading the Selah service, a contemplative worship experience of Biblical readings and prayers interwoven with music. Johnson is perhaps best known for his collaboration with Irish flutist, Brian Dunning. Their CDs have often been inspired by the evocative stories of Lawhead. Their music has been featured in films by Martin Scorsese and some of the most popular compilations of the Contemporary Celtic genre from Windham Hill and Hearts of Space. Johnson lives on Camano Island with his wife, Susie. For more information, visit: www.arkmusic.com.
