Each Wednesday at noon this summer concert-goers can take their brown lunch bags to Emmanuel Episcopal Church and enjoy a variety of great Orcas musicians.

The summer music season opens with the first Brown Bag concert at Emmanuel Church on July 2 with a performance by the Orcatrazz Swing Band. The band will perform rain (inside the church) or shine (in the beautiful Emmanuel garden) on July 2 from noon to 12:30 p.m. The musical offering is followed by a bring-your-own brown bag lunch rain (in the Parish Hall) or shine (in the garden) with a chance to spend some time with performers and friends.

The Brown Bag Concerts feature local musicians and groups all united in the goal of providing fun and relaxing summer entertainment, with the added benefit of funding a grant from the Emmanuel Music Committee each year to send a young Orcas musician to music camp. The grant this year will go to Kailley Grantham, who plays flute and piccolo. Admission is by donation, and proceeds go to the grant fund.

Orcatrazz, under the direction of Band Leader Ken Speck, will feature favorites such as “Mack the Knife,” “On the Sunny Side of the Street,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” and “Pennsylvania 6-5000.” Vocalist Beth Baker will perform “Sentimental Journey” and “They Can’t Take That Away From Me.”
