A pop-up drive-in movie theatre is coming to Orcas Island

This week the much-anticipated Orcas Island Pop-Up Drive-In Movie Theater presented by the Sea View Theatre and the Orcas Island Film Festival will light up the field at Mt. Baker Farm on Thursday, June 11 for a Drive-In Movie and LIVE Magic by Matthew Laslo. The event is also happening Wednesday, June 10 but is sold out for that date.

The show starts at dusk and the family-friendly feature film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” will follow. Admission is free, but attendees must make a reservation online. Space is limited so reserve early. Also, everyone must follow the social distancing requirements laid out by Gov. Inslee.

“A Drive-In Movie theater naturally lends itself as a safe place for people. You stay in your car and listen to the sound via your car’s FM radio. We feel safe in our cars. We really wanted to do something fun for the community during this very challenging time,” says Donna Laslo who is heading up the project.

Matthew Laslo was about to embark on a 35 US city tour with his new magic show, called “Shazam: The Magic Show” that was suddenly postponed when the pandemic struck. The shutdown led to a collaboration between Laslo Magic and the Orcas Island Film Festival to create the first-ever Drive-In Movie and LIVE Show.

OIFF continues to support the Sea View Theatre while its doors must remain closed through their Virtual On-Line Cinema. Any donations to help Sea View Theatre are greatly appreciated and can be made on OIFF website at http://www.orcasfilmfest.com/ or at www.seaviewtheatreorcas.com. The Drive-In Movie and Live Magic show is made possible thanks to many volunteers and a donation from OrcaSong Farm.
