2009 Play Fest auditions

Ever sit in the theater watching a movie or a play and think, “I can do that?” Aspiring actors can try out their acting aspirations at the Actors Theater of Orcas Island’s 2009 Play Fest.

The festival will feature seven plays by Orcas playwrights, which include high drama, comedy and tearjerker genres. A cast of 17 of both genders, and from age ten to 80 are needed.

Participants in the 2008 Play Fest were enthusiastic about the first-time acting experience and the supportive environment.

John Mazzarella, an Orcas acting veteran, said in a press release, “It is often life-changing; a terrific way to gain personal insight. Do it, especially if you believe yourself to be shy. All this is in a very safe environment.”

Those interested in participating in a play and bringing a playwright’s vision to life, may schedule an audition at the Grange on either March 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. or March 24 from 7 to 10 p.m. by contacting Doug Becthel at 317-5601 or bechtel@rockisland.com. Acting experience is not necessary. The plays are available for review at the Orcas Island Library at the Front Desk. Rehearsals will be in April.

Play Fest Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on April 30 and May 1 through 3 at the Grange.
