In an effort to clear up some misconceptions about the Park and Rec levy:

• The draft budget has never included toilets at Buck Park and does, in fact, suggest only low-cost Sanicans. (See online at OrcasParkAndRec.com.)

• The salary level we use in our draft budget for a director is well under the national average salary for this position, as it should be for a small community like ours.

• While there is a current Maintenance and Operations levy in place at the school district, the majority of this goes to operations while the remaining maintenance component has to cover not only Buck Park but all other outdoor spaces and every school building from K-12. Given the recent bond rejections to replace or repair aging buildings, it is logical that OISD will be forced to spend less on grounds in the future.
