Goodbye to Roger | Letter

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Roger Congdon. I first met Roger about 25 years ago, when I joined the American Legion Post #93.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Roger Congdon. I first met Roger about 25 years ago, when I joined the American Legion Post #93.

Over the years I got to know Roger through my association with the honor guard, and he was instrumental in helping us form the Sons Of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron #93 here on Orcas, 15 years ago.

Like Colonel Dick Boberg, Roger was always available to answer any questions regarding the various procedures and protocol of being an officer of the SAL unit.

Like most veterans I never heard Roger discuss his service in the military, and, although for the most part, Roger seemed to be quiet and/or reserved in nature, he truly had the heart of a lion. Which was indeed exemplified, not only by his extensive service record, but by his life.

Thank you, Roger, for showing us what a true hero is really like. God Bless You! And may the rest of your journey be as pleasant as your fondest dreams!
