Orcas Fire Chief Harris wants his own emergency response vessel. What an incredibly silly idea!

Chief Harris has some money left over from the Deer Harbor Fire Station project. It should be turned over to the county’s general fund, to make up for budget shortfalls. It should not be spent on a boat that duplicates the Sheriff’s, and which would get very little use.

Think of all of the county services which remain underfunded, and of those without any funds at all. Is a duplicate boat the best way to use the leftover cash? I think not.

I believe that Chief Harris may have a bad case of “pinnace envy.”
