A major tribute to Orcas Fire | Letter

With my wife being ill and in the midst of the most busy time of year for OIFR, the smoke alarm in our bedroom suddenly and persistently chirped in a penetrating manner, reminding us that it wanted a new battery. We would not have a minute of sleep all night if this continued. A phone call to OIFR connected me with Patrick Shepler. After a little while he and a very able assistant arrived at the house and climbed to the 16 feet height to exchange the culprit battery plus four others. Our hearts go to these outstanding helpers and to their dedication to the community. A million thanks to Patrick and his younger and able stepladder climbing friend . You left us impressed with your compassion. At our age, we no longer climb ladders to any height.
