San Juan Islands rank number two on New York Times top 2011 travel destinations

The New York Times ranked the San Juan Islands second in “The 41 Places to Go in 2011,” a travel article posted Jan. 7.

Only Santiago, Chile was listed ahead of the San Juans, which were noted for their “bold-faced restaurateurs” and “unspoiled nature.” (Lisa Nakamura of Eastsound’s Allium Restaurant received special mention.) Other destinations of note included exotic locales like Milan; London; Koh Samui, Thailand; the Republic of Georgia and Iceland.
