To the man whose allegiance is wavering | Letter

On Saturday afternoon, June 6, we were driving through Moran State Park when we came across a man with a sign that said “my allegiance is wavering.” We stopped so I could ask him what he meant. He was visibly distressed. I said, “Do you mean to our country?” and he said “Yes” and that it had to do with all the injustice. I should have said something encouraging but wasn’t prepared.
I haven’t gotten his pain out of my mind and would like to talk to him longer than a brief comment on the road. I have some thoughts that might help if he wants to talk: iamckinley@hotmail.com.
