Bringing in the new year with a shiver: photos and video of polar bear plunge

On the first day of every new year, islanders embark on an unusual adventure: plunging into the icy waters of Cascade Lake.
Orcas Island Rowing‘s “Polar Bear Plunge” is an Orcas tradition for young and old. The event is a low-key fundraiser for the junior rowing club. This year’s theme was “Frozen in Time.”
