On Tuesday, Sept. 16, School Superintendent Barbara
Kline and School Board Chair Janet Brownell will testify
before the Washington State Legislature’s Joint Task Force on Basic
Education Finance.
The Joint Task Force is developing
options for a new statewide funding structure for public
education, including new formulas and a new definition of
“basic education”.
Barbara and Janet are scheduled to testify about the
impacts of the current state funding structure on rural
school districts such as Orcas beginning at 11 a.m. A live
video feed should be available at
www.leg.wa.gov/Joint/Committees/BEF/
Once on the website, click on the link for “TVW”
(on the right side of the page) to access the video feed.
Barb Skotte of the Orcas Island School District PTSA urges the public to contact the Joint Task Force personally with questions or comments, by emailing
bef@wsipp.wa.gov or calling (360) 586-3952.
Skotte adds, “Since the time has been a bit of a moving target, if you’re intent on seeing the testimony live, you may wish to check the legislative website well before 11, in case there have been further changes.”
