OASIS program K-8 students, parents and community-based instructors are invited to join Oasis staff and site council for a meet and greet social at the Cascade Lake playground and shelter area Thursday, August 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

“If you are enrolled or considering enrolling in the program and want to meet other parents, children and educators or have questions about it, this is the place to be!” organizers say.

The event will welcome all new students and provide an opportunity to meet superintendent Barbara Klein, principal Kyle Freeman, OASIS program staff and parent elected site council representatives.

Each family will receive a welcome packet, including a new Parent Student Handbook. All home schoolers are welcome.

Community members interested in sharing their skills with OASIS students are also welcome at the event. For more information about becoming a community-based instructor, email Beth Morris at orcasbetty@live.com.

About OASIS

In September the OASIS K-8 program will celebrate its 9th year of operation.

“It has come a long way since its inception,” organizers say. “The school continues to make improvements to this innovative program and serves a diverse population. OASIS is a Parent Partnership, an alternative educational program operated by the Orcas Island School District, designed to help parents who want a home schooled and/or alternative educational option for their children. The school district provides support to families in their search for creative, flexible methods and materials for educating their children, and together they strive to meet the unique needs of each learner.”
