Food Bank wins Lion’s Club shopping spree

The Orcas Lion’s Club Super Shopping Spree Raffle winning ticket drawn on April 25 was purchased by Ruben and Rebecca Ramirez of Oceanside and Orcas, and was donated to the Orcas Food Bank. Dave McPeak, the president/manager of the Food Bank, expressed his gratitude, noting the tremendous local need to keep the food bank shelves filled.

McPeak did a fabulous job of filling multiple shopping carts at Island Market within the five-minute time allotted. Two anonymous Lion’s members watching the festive “run” donated an additional $200 for groceries. Lion Club members and the public cheered him on.

Lion’s Club Shopping Spree chairpersons, Pam Harney and Jim Biddick, commented that many raffle participants donated their tickets this year to a number of other local worthy Orcas entities. The Lion’s Club uses the funds for donations to Lion’s sponsored Camp Horizen, the annual Health Van providing free health screening and addressing sight and hearing needs of local residents.

The community businesses that sponsored the Shopping Spree this year were: Aurora Company, Blue Heron B & B, Cherie Lindholm Realty, Country Corner Grocery/Deli, Eastsound Instruments, Howe Art, Glenwood Inn, Island Excavators, Island Market, Island Psychiatric Services, Island Storage, Kay’s Antiques, Orcas Excavators, Orcas Home Central/ACE, Orcas Island Physical Therapy, Orcas Village Store and The Trading Company.
