This year’s “We Can Do It!” fund raising campaign of the United Way of San Juan County board has begun.
United Way president Carol Vincent-Hall and Orcas board member Candace Bodenhamer will help place specially marked cans in cooperating businesses throughout Orcas for islanders and visitors alike to add their donations. Small bookmark flyers will accompany the cans to showcase each island’s supported programs.
On Orcas this year’s supported programs include: The Orcas Family Health Center’s Well-Child Checks; an Orcas Family Resource Center/Family Connections part time staff position; the Orcas Elementary School’s Primary Intervention Program; Orcas Island Prevention Partnership’s new “On Applebee Pond” preschool/ primary grades prevention program; the Orcas Senior Center; the Orcas Montessori school; and San Juan County 4-H programs. An additional 12 programs are supported on Lopez and San Juan Island.
“Together, we can do it!” organizers say.
Donations can be made at these cooperating local businesses: Ace Hardware, Country Corner, Eastsound Electronics, Key Bank, Orcas Village Store, Orcas Hotel, The Village Stop, The Office Cupboard (after July 4) and Washington Federal.
