The Orcas Island Artworks will exhibit pastel landscape paintings by Pam Jenkins through the month of June.

Jenkins was an art major in college for a year before choosing to major in elementary and early childhood education. Most of her work was in fiber arts until she visited a gallery in Bow-Edison 20 years ago and fell in love with the look of landscapes in pastel.

β€œIt took me another 12 years to get up the nerve to try it,” she says, but after taking a pastel class in 2001, she was hooked.

Her landscapes are primarily of Orcas, Skagit Valley and the Northwest.

β€œI love the ever changing color, light, contrast and textures in our environment,” she said. “Pastels have a soft richness similar to working in fibers – layers of peek-a-boo colors interacting with each other like woven strands.”

The Artworks is open daily from 10 to 6.
