The Washington State Department of Commerce announced 20 rural cities, towns and counties will receive a total of more than $11.4 million in Community Development Block Grants for 2021.

In San Juan County, the Eastsound Sewer and Water District received $900,000 for waste water treatment plant upgrades.

The 22 projects funded will: improve rural water, sewer, streets, community facilities and fire protection systems, support affordable housing and economic development and complete community planning for asset management, recreation and growth.
