Valentines Day events around the island

V-day dance

Dance the night away at the Oddfellows Hall Valentine’s Dance on Saturday, Feb. 10, beginning at 8 p.m. Sway to the jiving big band sounds of Orcatrazz. With eclectic music, this event is fit for Valentines of all ages. Admission is by donation.

Heart of Song

Orcas Center is presenting “Heart of Song: Women Songwriters in the Round” this weekend. Local singer and songwriters Melody Funk, Mandy Troxel, Susan Osborn and Carolyn Cruso will perform solo and together in a songwriter-in-the-round concert on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $19, $15 for students, $2 off for Orcas Center members. Tickets may be purchased at www.orcascenter.org or by calling 376-2281 ext. 1.

Wine tasting

Come to the Orcas Senior Center for a special Valentine’s Day Wine Tasting on Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 1 to 2 p.m. It will feature wines from Doe Bay Wine Co., the cost is $5 person. It is open to all ages 21+. Sign up at the front desk or call 360-376-2677.

Prime rib dinner

Enjoy a Valentine’s Day prime rib dinner on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the American Legion. There will be prime rib, twice baked potatoes, mixed vegetables, tossed salad and dessert. The cost for adults is $24 and children 10 and under are $12.

Community meal

Orcas Christian School will host a community dinner on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. This free meal will feature enchiladas, burritos, rice, refried beans, black bean casserole, Mexican slaw, salad, chips, cake and drink.

Grilled cheese

The Orcas Island Education Foundation invites the community to the First Annual Grilled Cheese Showdown. This fundraiser is on Wednesday, Feb. 14 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the public school cafeteria. Your admittance entitles you to soup and to six grilled cheese sandwich tastings. Each “taste” is a quarter of a sandwich — so you will be enjoying a sandwich and a half. And, YOU get to vote for the winning sandwich. The chefs of this event are Kyle Freeman, Hilary Canty, Janet Brownell, Mia Kartiganer, Chris Hogle and Wendy Thomas. Proceeds will benefit the Orcas Island Education Foundation. Tickets are at the door: adults $10, children under 14 $5 and families (up to four members) $25.
