Orcas Senior Center happenings

Tai chi chuan

The Orcas Senior Center will offer tai chi chuan classes taught by Robin Kucklick. Tai chi chuan is a movement meditation with gentle, slow, flowing, choreographed movement patterns that provide many proven health benefits. An introductory talk and demonstration will be given on April 29, at 5 p.m. to help answer questions for those interested in participating. The classes will run from April 29-July 29, 5-6 p.m.

Brunch benefited Meals on Wheels

OSC’s legendary Spring Brunch held March 31 was a tremendous success, raising more than $2,600 in support of Meals on Wheels and more for seniors and people with disabilities on Orcas Island. Chef Christina Orchid, Jay Savell and Ian Cassinos served up 175 scrumptious meals. Last year, the nutrition program provided meals to more than 400 community meals participants and 100 Meals on Wheels participants. Food security is essential to good health and reduces seniors’ need for nursing home care. Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver three hot meals a week to our homebound neighbors.
