Orcas Christian School adds breakfast program

Orcas Christian School will test a free meals program starting January. Most would agree that starting the day with a healthy meal leads to many positive outcomes.

With this in mind, OCS will implement a breakfast program beginning in January. With the assistance of Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Beth Smith, OCS is looking forward to offering this important benefit to its students.

“OCS has taken a very positive step forward in supporting the health and wellness of its students,” said Smith.

She adds that it’s certainly clear from several studies that good nutrition supports improved cognition, learning, attendance and even classroom behavior. Smith is helping OCS to create healthy menus with student appeal. Breakfast will be offered free to students throughout January as the school tests the popularity of the program. Currently, OCS offers a hot lunch program on Wednesdays. It is the ultimate goal of OCS to participate in USDA’s National School Lunch/School Breakfast Programs. Stay tuned!
