Boys Basketball

It was a big week for Viking Basketball as they closed out their regular season by three home games.

On Feb. 1, the Vikings competed against Lopez. The Vikings took control of the game early and defeated the Lobos, 86-43. On Feb. 4, Orcas took on La Conner for the second time within one week. Viking defense improved the second time around, allowing 11 fewer points than the previous game for the Braves. The final score was 71-46, Vikings.

The boys then faced Concrete on Feb. 7 for the senior game. The team battled, trying to get a victory for the last regular-season game and they did. The game ended 61-33.

Orcas is headed to districts to compete for a spot to regionals and then off to the state. Districts are scheduled for Feb. 12-22, with specific dates and times of Viking games to be determined. The 2B regional and state championships are Feb. 28-March 7.

Girls Basketball

The Lady Vikings faced the Lopez Lobos on Feb. 1. Orcas fought to the end, but Lopez came out victorious, with a final score of 43-56.

Another home game took place on Feb. 4 against La Conner. The Lady Vikings came out strong right off the bat. The team played a much better defense along with offense than they had played against the Braves the week before. Unfortunately, however, La Conner took the 33-73 victory.

The senior game took place on Feb. 7. The Concrete Lions came to Orcas and the Lady Vikings were ready to battle it out on the court. The game started off slow, but by the second half, Orcas picked it up. The Lady Vikings came out on top, winning 65-22. The Lady Vikings ended in second place in the league, after Mount Vernon Christian dropped into the 1B league. They will be facing Auburn Adventist at 4 p.m. on Feb. 17 at Auburn, for the first round of district playoffs.
