Vikings volleyball beats Friday Harbor on Tuesday

Down by two and with their backs against the wall, the Friday Harbor volleyball team fought its way back into Tuesday’s inter-island grudge match at home against Orcas by tallying a win in a hotly-contested Game 3.

The Wolverines, trailing 23-21 in Game 3 of the best-of-five contest, erased the two-point deficit and captured four consecutive points to pocket the victory and to tighten the match at two games to one.

But the prospects of a come-from-behind win proved short-lived. The Vikings, capitalizing on superior size up front and experience on the court, jumped out to a 5-0 lead, snapped a 8-8 tie, tallied six-straight points, and then out-paced Friday Harbor down the stretch to claim the match with a 25-17 victory in Game 4. Orcas, defeated by Darrington at home in its league opener, posted its first victory in league by taking three of four games: 25-16, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-17.

With the loss, Friday Harbor fell to 1-2 in Northwest 1A/2B League play, and 1-4 overall, while the Vikings evened their league record at 1-1.
