The 12-person Cross Country team ran at scenic Fort Casey on Wednesday, Sept. 27, and at the enormous Nike Twilight meet at Cedarcrest Golf Course in Marysville on Sept. 30. Throughout the season, runners strive to improve their times, and scoring a “PR” or Personal Record, is the goal. Four Vikings posted PRs last week.
The soccer team traveled to Mount Vernon Christian on Thursday, September 28, for a tough fought game. Half time found the score 0-0, but Vikings scored one in the second half to win. At Lopez on October 3, the Vikings had an easier time, beating the Lobos 6-1.
The Viking volleyball team had two 3-0 wins at the end of September, beating both Mt Vernon Christian and Granite Falls. Following these wins was a loss 0-3 to La Conner on October 3, and then a win over Friday Harbor 3-0 on October 5.
Coach Mallory Balcomb says: “Our team is finding its groove and really starting to gel. We had a tough loss against La Conner this week but they put up a good fight. I am so proud of the work they are putting in, they are well on their way to achieving their goal of success at the state tournament!”
The Booster Club will host a bonfire at the Village Green at about 4 p.m. on Oct. 13, at the culmination of the Homecoming Parade. All Viking fans are welcome to come enjoy some hot chocolate and Zach Holley’s homemade chili.
Homecoming games include Volleyball vs. Concrete on October 12 at 3:30 p.m., and Soccer vs. Providence Classical Christian School at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 14.
Upcoming “Pink” games will raise funds for two locals living with cancer, on Oct. 12 for volleyball and Oct. 20 for soccer. Donations can be made at www.OrcasBoosters.org, by indicating the word “pink” in the memo.
Senior athletes will be honored at home games on Oct. 17 (volleyball) and Oct. 24 (soccer).
