Vikings giving it their all during intense season

Vikings soccer traveled to Cedar Park Christian Lynwood on April 21, where Orcas came away with the 4-0 victory. The game consisted of three goals (a hat trick) by senior August Groeninger as well as a goal by junior William Garcia. The goals were assisted by Tommy Anderson-Cleveland, Douglas Ha, Leonai van Putten and Groeninger.

On April 24, the Vikings faced the Mount Vernon Christian Hurricanes at home. Orcas led 2-0 going into the second half, but MVC kept fighting and scored three goals in a row, putting them in the lead. Orcas didn’t give up and with less than five minutes left in the game, the Hurricanes got called for a foul, bringing the Vikings to a penalty kick. Groeninger took the PK and scored, tying the game. The game went into overtime where the first goal wins, with two five-minute periods. The first overtime went scoreless, bringing the game to double overtime. This is when van Putten found the open spot, on the left corner of the goal, scoring the winning point. The final score was 4-3, Orcas.

This week, the Vikings will be at Providence Classical Christian on April 27 and have their senior game on April 30, at home, against the La Conner Braves.

On Friday, April 23, Vikings volleyball took on the Coupeville Wolves at home. Orcas battled in a very strong game, with the second set being back and forth, but the Wolves took the 0-3 victory.

The following day, Orcas made the trip to Concrete, to battle the Lions. Concrete took the first two sets, but the Vikings didn’t give up and fought back in a very strong third match, ending with a dig by senior Alanna Lago,to a perfect set by junior Tayla Malo, setting up for a kill by senior Lindsey Simpson in the far left corner of the court to score the winning point of set three. This was the energy the Vikings needed to carry them through the rest of the five-match game. The Vikings took the fourth set as well as the fifth, ending the day with a hit by Alecia Talbot to take the victory.

This week the Vikings will play La Conner on April 27, Concrete on April 28 and Mount Vernon Christian on May 1.

On Friday, April 23, the Vikings Cross Country team competed in a meet against Coupeville and Mount Vernon Christian on Orcas around Camp Orkila in a 5K race. Ryan Deer finished in sixth with a time of 22:09.2 out of the boys and Nisha Woolworth placed fifth in the girls race, with a time of 27:53.2.

The Vikings will head to Mount Vernon Christian on April 30 this week, in a race against the Coupeville Wolves and the Mount Vernon Christian Hurricanes.
